The short version

Shotcake does not collect, track, or sell any personal data. Your screenshots stay on your Mac unless you explicitly choose to share one.

What stays on your device

  • All screenshots you capture, annotate, and save are processed and stored locally on your Mac.
  • Text recognition (OCR) runs entirely on-device using Apple's Vision framework.
  • Shotcake has no analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no user accounts.

When you share a link

If you use the optional "Share Link" feature, the selected image is uploaded to our server so a short link can be generated. Shared images:

  • are uploaded anonymously — no account, name, or email is attached;
  • are automatically and permanently deleted after 7 days;
  • are accessible to anyone who has the link, so share links carefully.

Permissions

  • Screen Recording — required by macOS for any app that captures the screen. Used only when you take a screenshot.
  • Camera — used only if you add a selfie overlay to a screenshot. Never accessed otherwise.

The newsletter

If you subscribe to our email list, your address is processed by MailerLite, our email provider, and is not stored on this website. Subscription uses double opt-in: you receive a confirmation email and are only added after you click the link in it. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. Your address is never linked to a purchase, a screenshot or a share link.
